SUBJECT: Recruitment of Post-National Service Graduates and the Youth as Volunteers

I am pleased to inform you that the Board and Management has initiated a recruitment drive for post-National Service graduates and the youth to serve as volunteers for a period of six (6) months. This decision was made considering the numerous applications received from the youth, as we aim to address the issue of youth unemployment in our country.

The recruitment will focus on various models including sanitation, teaching, agriculture, health, and other sectors aligned with the Government’s efforts to promote environmental health, cleanliness, and sustainable development.

An online application system will be operational soon on the Scheme’s website to facilitate the selection process. We encourage you to spread awareness about this opportunity among potential candidates in your region/district and provide necessary guidance and support throughout the application process.

Your cooperation and support in this initiative are highly appreciated, as we work towards empowering our youth and contributing to the overall growth and development of our country.

Thank you.

Public sector workers salary negotiations and Minimum wage for 2025

Public Sector Workers Salary Negotiations and Minimum Wage for 2025: What to Expect

When will the 2025 salary negotiations commence?

This question has been frequently asked by many, reflecting the anticipation and hope surrounding the upcoming negotiations. Public sector workers in Ghana are eager to see what the future holds for their wages.

Ghana’s Revised National Daily Minimum Wage for 2024

In accordance with Section 113 (1) (a) of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), the National Tripartite Committee increased the national daily minimum wage from GHS 14.88 to GHS 18.15, effective from January 1, 2024. All establishments, institutions, or organizations with daily minimum wages below the new rate had to adjust accordingly. This adjustment also brought about an increase in taxes and utility costs.

Historical Wage Increments

Recent years have seen varying increments in base pay under the Single Spine Salary Structure:

Despite these increments, workers argue that the value of their pay has diminished due to inflation and rising living costs.

Upcoming Negotiations for 2025

With the new year approaching, workers are eager to know when the negotiations for 2025 will commence. Some suggest timing the negotiations close to the election period but ensuring they conclude before the elections. The concern is that politicians might delay these negotiations until next year, which would be unfavorable for the workers.

The Role of the National Labour Commission (NLC) and Trade Unions

The National Labour Commission (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and sister associations have demonstrated their influence in managing the country’s labor issues. Their recent collective intention to strike over the sale of a 60% stake in SSNIT Hotels highlighted their power. Such actions remind us of the significant impact these unions can have when they unite for a common cause.  Organised Labour Strike

Current Economic Pressures on Workers

Inflation, utility bills, and high prices of goods and services are eroding workers’ salaries before they even receive them. This financial strain is further exacerbated for those involved in foreign trade with the dollar. Workers are hopeful for an increase in the minimum wage and salary increments for the coming year.

Looking Forward to 2025

As of July 13, 2024, the minimum wage of GHS 18.5 is equivalent to $1.19, given the exchange rate of $15.5000. Workers are advocating for an increase that will significantly impact their lives, enabling them to pay bills, fees, and support their families.

They desire a realistic proposal, with many suggesting an increment of more than 50% of their basic salary, especially after the unions’ previous 70% proposal ended with just a 23% increment.

The 2025 salary negotiations are crucial for public sector workers in Ghana. With the economic pressures they face, a substantial wage increase is not just desirable but necessary.

The role of the unions will be pivotal in these negotiations, and workers are looking to them for a favorable outcome that will improve their quality of life.

GIS, Fire Service, Police, Prisons & NACOB to recruit 11,000 personnel

GIS, Fire Service, Police, Prisons & NACOB to recruit 11,000 personnel

Credible information that has been picked up by The Chronicle from multiple sources at the Ministry of Interior and that of Finance indicate that barring any unforeseen circumstances, the government would start clearing the backlog of applicants who had applied to join the various security agencies under the Interior Ministry, starting from, Monday, July 8, 2024.

JOIN FOR THE LATEST UPDATE CLICK HERE

These sources, which spoke to The Chronicle from the two ministries (Interior & Finance), revealed that financial clearance had already been given to recruit the new personnel. It is, however, not known if the military, under the Ministry of Defence, also has a backlog of applications they would want to clear.
GIS

The sources indicated that since this is a backlog the Ministry of Interior is going to work with, there would be no advertisements in the national dailies calling on qualified applicants to apply to join the security services.

A counter check conducted by The Chronicle confirmed what our multiple sources had earlier told us.

Figures intercepted by this reporter indicate that the Interior Ministry had ordered the Prisons Service to recruit 1,500 from the pool of applicants who had earlier applied to join the service. Ghana Immigration Service has also been tasked to recruit 3,000 personnel from the backlog at their disposal.

Similarly, the Ghana Police Service has also been ordered to recruit 4,000 new officers to augment their current staff strength.

How to print police recruitment invitation slip 2024

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the Narcotics Control Commission have also been asked to recruit 2000 and 500 personnel respectively.

The Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, in May this year, granted interviews to the various radio stations in Accra to deny claim by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority in Parliament that his outfit was doing secret recruitment.

He admitted that the recruitment would definitely be done, but that would be meant to clear the backlog of applications that had already been received by these security agencies.

So far, the Akufo-Addo government has been able to recruit more youth into the various security agencies than any government.

According to the government policy document –Summary Tracking Sheet for Employment Data, the ministry of interior through the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana Fire Service and Ghana Immigration Service recruited 3,500 personnel in 2017 and another 3,500 in 2018.

There were no recruitments in 2019 – it resumed in 2020, where about 3,549 new officers were recruited.

In 2021, about 2,057 officers were recruited whilst in 2022, a total of 3,208 recruitments were carried out by the aforementioned security agencies.

This means that the four security service have since 2017 recruited about 15,814 youth who would have otherwise be roaming the streets looking for jobs.

The current 11,000 applicants, if they are successfully recruited, would have brought the total recruitments since 2017 to a record 26,814.

Apartment from the recruitment, the government has also supplied these security agencies with the necessary logistics – cars and communication equipment – to enable them work effectively. Accommodation, among others, has also been provided.

PRESS BRIEFING

4th July, 2024

RECRUITMENT OF FIRST BATCH OF DEGREE HOLDERS (2022) FROM PUBLIC COLLEGES OF EDUCATION

Good morning, members of the press, colleague directors, and staff present. I welcome you all to this press briefing by the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES). We are profoundly grateful to you for honoring this invitation on short notice. We are here to brief you on the newly introduced ‘self-posting’ module for recruiting the first batch of degree holders (2022) from the Public Colleges of Education.

On 11 May 2024, the Ghana Education Service (GES) invited applications from qualified, trained teachers who graduated with degrees from the Public Colleges of Education to be considered for employment.

Join the Teachers Platform Here

STATISTICS

As usual, the Service received applications from 21,010 interested applicants. Out of this number, 12,784 graduates from the Public Colleges of Education were qualified.

THE SELF-POSTING MODULE

We wish to inform the general public that all the 2022 graduates from Public Colleges of Education who applied for recruitment via the www.gespromotions.gov.gh platform and satisfied all the requirements should visit the portal from 5th July to 31st July 2024 to select their preferred Region, District, and School.

RATIONALE

The ‘self-posting’ recruitment module has the benefit of getting newly trained teachers posted to regions where language will not be a barrier, allowing them to speak the local language (L1) to create a more effective teaching and learning environment. Additionally, the teachers can select schools close to their families, enjoying the associated economic support.

STEPS TO ACCESS THE PLATFORM

Qualified applicants must follow these steps to access their appointment letters:

GES Recruitment Portal 2024

  1. Visit the www.gespromotions.gov.gh portal.
  2. Enter your College Index Number to verify your qualification.
  3. Enter your phone number and NTC number accurately. This is crucial for validation and your successful application.
  4. A One-Time Password (OTP) will be sent to the phone number provided.
  5. Enter your OTP.
  6. Carefully select the preferred Region, District, and School and submit.
  7. Save and print out the Appointment Letter.

VERIFICATION

Applicants must note that all Appointment Letters have a QR Code for validation. You can simply scan the QR code with your smartphone to check its authenticity. The introduction of the QR code seeks to eliminate the incidence of fake appointment letters.

Successful applicants must proceed to their respective Regional Education Directorates with their Ghana Card and other necessary documents for verification and further directives.
