Today’s update is about the ongoing negotiations between teacher unions and the government.

Negotiation Meeting

As you know, the three teacher unions – GNAT, NAGRAT, and CCT-GH – were scheduled to meet with the government on May 13th, following teacher demonstrations in the Volta Region on May 3rd. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the meeting has been rescheduled for Friday, May 17th.

Regional Protests

This delay has sparked further action. Teachers in other regions, who previously threatened protests if negotiations weren’t prioritized, are now taking to the streets.

  • Teachers in the Central Region will be protesting on Wednesday, May 15th. We’ll be bringing you live updates!
  • Ashanti Region teachers will also be protesting on Friday, May 17th, coinciding with the rescheduled negotiation date.

Call to Action

It’s clear that the government needs to address teacher welfare and working conditions. As the saying goes, “Teaching won’t be considered an attractive career until a politician can proudly say their child is a teacher.”

Teachers, don’t back down!

This is the time to fight for what you deserve. You’ve been taken for granted for far too long. The 21st-century teacher is informed. They know their needs, what’s happening in other institutions, and the discrepancies in benefits and funding across sectors.

The government claims they lack resources for teacher raises, yet prioritizes other projects.
