Early Life
Prof. Smile Afua Gavua Dzisi was born on 18th June 1971 in Wusuta, Volta Region, Ghana, to Rev. Eusebius Kofi Gavua and Mrs. Rebecca Dzandu Gavua. She began her education at Saviefe Agorkpo, a rural community near Ho, and later attended Mawuli School, where she obtained her GCE ‘O’ Level and ‘A’ Level certificates.
Prof. Dzisi pursued higher education at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), earning a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences. She also holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Ghana, Legon, and a PhD in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia.

Career
Prof. Dzisi’s career began as a teacher at St. Roses Secondary School in Akwatia. In 1999, she joined Koforidua Polytechnic (now Koforidua Technical University) as a lecturer. Her leadership journey at the institution has been remarkable:
- First Female Rector: Appointed on 1st August 2015, she made history as the first female rector of Koforidua Technical University.
- Interim Vice Chancellor: She currently serves as the Interim Vice Chancellor of the university.
- Other Roles: She has held key positions, including Head of Marketing, Campus Coordinator, Director of Research and New Programmes, and Head of the Department of Purchasing and Supply.
Prof. Dzisi is also a member of prestigious organizations such as the International Society for Professional Innovation Management and the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management. She is the Vice Chairperson of the Commonwealth Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics, representing Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria, The Gambia, and Sierra Leone.

- Name in Science and Education Award by the Academic Union and Club of Rectors of Europe, UK.

Prof. Dzisi is married to Dr. Stephen Yao Dzisi, a medical practitioner, and they have three children.

Prof. Dzisi is a passionate advocate for gender equality and women’s empowerment. Her notable contributions include:
- Gender Transformative Education: Led nationwide studies and strategies to promote gender equality in education.
- Women in STEM/TVET: Championed the establishment of Women in Technical Education and Development (WITED) across Ghana’s 10 Technical Universities.
- Consultancy Work: Developed the Ghana Gender Policy and Social Protection Policy for the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection.
