PRESS BRIEFING

4th July, 2024

RECRUITMENT OF FIRST BATCH OF DEGREE HOLDERS (2022) FROM PUBLIC COLLEGES OF EDUCATION

Good morning, members of the press, colleague directors, and staff present. I welcome you all to this press briefing by the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES). We are profoundly grateful to you for honoring this invitation on short notice. We are here to brief you on the newly introduced ‘self-posting’ module for recruiting the first batch of degree holders (2022) from the Public Colleges of Education.

On 11 May 2024, the Ghana Education Service (GES) invited applications from qualified, trained teachers who graduated with degrees from the Public Colleges of Education to be considered for employment.

Join the Teachers Platform Here

STATISTICS

As usual, the Service received applications from 21,010 interested applicants. Out of this number, 12,784 graduates from the Public Colleges of Education were qualified.

THE SELF-POSTING MODULE

We wish to inform the general public that all the 2022 graduates from Public Colleges of Education who applied for recruitment via the www.gespromotions.gov.gh platform and satisfied all the requirements should visit the portal from 5th July to 31st July 2024 to select their preferred Region, District, and School.

RATIONALE

The ‘self-posting’ recruitment module has the benefit of getting newly trained teachers posted to regions where language will not be a barrier, allowing them to speak the local language (L1) to create a more effective teaching and learning environment. Additionally, the teachers can select schools close to their families, enjoying the associated economic support.

STEPS TO ACCESS THE PLATFORM

Qualified applicants must follow these steps to access their appointment letters:

GES Recruitment Portal 2024

  1. Visit the www.gespromotions.gov.gh portal.
  2. Enter your College Index Number to verify your qualification.
  3. Enter your phone number and NTC number accurately. This is crucial for validation and your successful application.
  4. A One-Time Password (OTP) will be sent to the phone number provided.
  5. Enter your OTP.
  6. Carefully select the preferred Region, District, and School and submit.
  7. Save and print out the Appointment Letter.

VERIFICATION

Applicants must note that all Appointment Letters have a QR Code for validation. You can simply scan the QR code with your smartphone to check its authenticity. The introduction of the QR code seeks to eliminate the incidence of fake appointment letters.

Successful applicants must proceed to their respective Regional Education Directorates with their Ghana Card and other necessary documents for verification and further directives.

GRA Upfront Relief; Tax Relief on Monthly Basis We Didn’t Know

GRA Upfront Relief; Tax Relief on Monthly Basis We Didn’t Know

Discovering the nuances of tax relief can significantly impact your financial well-being, especially when it comes to the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) Upfront Relief. In this article, we’ll delve into the details of this relief, debunk some common misconceptions, and shed light on the types of reliefs available.

Understanding Tax Relief:

Tax relief is a valuable allowance that aids resident individuals in mitigating their tax burdens. To initiate the relief process, individuals can obtain a Tax Relief Application form from any GRA Domestic Tax Revenue Division office nationwide. Whether you prefer to pick up the form in person or download it online, this step is crucial to unlocking potential monthly tax benefits.

Dispelling Myths:

One prevalent misconception surrounding tax relief is the assumption that it operates on an annual basis. The GRA, through its Official Platform, clarifies that certain relief types are, in fact, granted on a monthly basis rather than annually.

Types of Reliefs:

Upfront Reliefs, a prime example of monthly relief, are regularly bestowed upon resident individuals and employees. The beauty of this system lies in its immediacy, allowing beneficiaries to enjoy relief throughout the year without the need to wait until year-end assessments.

Highlighted reliefs under this category include Child Education Relief, Disability Relief, Old Age Relief, and Aged Dependant Relief. These reliefs are designed to address specific financial challenges faced by individuals, providing timely support when needed.

Navigating Challenges:

Despite the potential benefits, some individuals express confusion and frustration, particularly those who have applied for end-of-year assessments without receiving the expected relief. Concerns about income tax surpassing pension deductions add to the complexity, leaving many wondering about the effectiveness of the relief system.

Call for Flexibility and Reliability:

Acknowledging these challenges, it becomes imperative for the GRA to ensure a flexible and reliable claim process. Public education efforts should not only inform but also guide individuals through a seamless application process. As the GRA continues to publish advice for the public, the need for a user-friendly claim
