The three major teacher unions recently submitted a drafted proposal highlighting this issue. Although this allowance has been included in various collective agreements between teachers and their employers, it has not been paid.

In recent agreements between teachers and the government, the provision for this allowance was reiterated. However, the implementation details are still pending, and it remains uncertain whether these will be actualized.

John Mahama, the NDC Presidential Candidate, has pledged to provide a 20% allowance incentive to teachers who accept postings in deprived areas. This commitment aims to resolve one of the key factors behind the teachers’ strike.

Currently, in some schools, a single teacher is responsible for teaching all students. To address this, the government has initiated a special recruitment drive to hire local teachers for specific areas, such as the Ghana Education Service (GES) recruiting locals to teach in Pusiga. GES grants special arrangement to recruit indigenous teachers in Pusiga

The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) is accepting applications for Postgraduate (Masters Programmes) scholarships for the 2024/25 Academic Year. The application period is from 3rd June 2024 to 16th June 2024.

1. Apply Via Scholarship Portal
   • Visit the GETFund website to access the scholarship portal and complete the online application form.
2. Provide Required Documentation
   • Complete the online form with the required information and upload the necessary documents for vetting and shortlisting.
3. Application Status Update
   • Communication on application status, instructions, and updates will be via email and SMS. Further actions by successful applicants will continue via the portal.

The notifications will serve as a prompt, informing individuals that their NHIS membership has been automatically renewed. The NHIA’s decision has been met with widespread approval, particularly among the elderly and those reliant on the NHIS for their healthcare needs.

By eliminating the need for manual renewals, the NHIA is removing a significant barrier to accessing healthcare, especially for pensioners who may find the renewal process cumbersome. “The health of our clients is our topmost priority,” an NHIA representative stated.

SSNIT and NIA Numbers Merger

The SSNIT and NIA numbers merger is a process to link SSNIT numbers of members to their NIA numbers. The NIA number is the Personal ID Number on the Ghana Card. This means that your NIA number will become your SSNIT number after the merger.

To merge your SSNIT and NIA numbers, you must have enrolled with SSNIT biometrically. You need your SSNIT number and NIA number (Personal ID Number on the Ghana Card). However, if the mobile phone number and email address you currently use are different from what you have in the SSNIT database, you must provide your email address and mobile phone number.

Available Options for Merging SSNIT and NIA Numbers

1. USSD Code: 7119#
2. Website: SSNIT Member Portal https://www.ssnit.org.gh
3. Walk-in: Visit any SSNIT branch.

Merging SSNIT and NIA Numbers Using USSD (Short Code)

1. Dial 7119# on your mobile phone.
2. Select option 1.
3. Enter your SSNIT Number.
4. Enter your email address (if the phone number you are using is different from your phone number registered in the SSNIT database).
5. Enter the Personal ID Number on your Ghana Card.
