The Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to inform its eligible employees about the approved subject areas for Study Leave With Pay for the academic year. In accordance with the GES Study Leave With Pay policy, employees must satisfy the following conditions to qualify.

Qualification for Study Leave With Pay

Conditions for Grant of Study Leave With Pay:

  1. Service Duration: Minimum of three (3) years of satisfactory service.
    • Beneficiaries will be bonded for the duration served at the institution plus one (1) additional year.
  2. Service in Deprived Areas: Applicants who have served in designated deprived areas for two (2) years may be eligible.
  3. Non-Professional Graduate Teachers: Must have served for at least one (1) year before being eligible for Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) courses.
  4. Return from Secondment: Staff returning from secondment must serve a minimum of two (2) years before becoming eligible.
  5. Re-engagement: Staff who vacate, leave, and are re-appointed must serve a minimum of five (5) years before becoming eligible.
  6. Eligibility Reapplication: Staff not qualifying in the first year cannot apply again in the second year but can apply for Study Leave Without Pay.
  7. Remaining Service Period: Eligible staff must have at least two (2) years of service remaining after the course.
    • Staff aged fifty-five (55) or above can only apply for courses lasting one (1) to three (3) years.
  8. Good Conduct and Performance: Eligibility is subject to good conduct, performance, and recommendation by the immediate supervisor.

Application Process:

  1. Forms: Obtain application forms from Metro/Municipal/District Education Offices.
  2. Submission: Complete and submit four (4) copies of the application forms with certified true copies of certificates.
  3. Routing: Submit applications to the Regional Director through the Metro/Municipal/District Director/Head of Institution (2nd Cycle).
  4. Approval: Regional/District Directors should ensure qualified beneficiaries’ lists reach the Acting Director, HRMD, G.E.S. Headquarters.

  1. Visual Arts (GKA, Creative Art, Sculpture, Clothing and Textile, graphic design, Picture Making, Leather work.
  2. Vocational Education (Clothing & Textiles, Hospitality Management, Catering, Fashion & Design, Management, in Living, Food and Nutrition, Home Economics)
  3. Technical Courses (Tech Drawing, Electronics, Applied Electricity, Refrigeration, Welding, Metal Work, Building Construction, Auto Mechanic, Auto Works, Draughtsmanship, Creative Arts)
